COURSE OBJECTIVES
Mathematics is a practical, exciting and creative discipline that should be appreciated and enjoyed by all of our middle school students. As outlined in the New York State Leaning Standards for Mathematics (Learning Standard Three), the focus of mathematics must encompass the following content areas:
Seven Content Areas for Mathematics
1. Mathematical Reasoning 2. Number and Numeration 3. Operations
4. Modeling/Multiple Representation 5. Measurement 6. Uncertainty 7. Patterns/Functions
GRADE 8
Integrated Algebra 8
This course, which is the first in NYS three year sequence for Mathematics, has algebra as its focal point but includes a strong problem solving component. Coordinate geometry and data analysis are also included. Regents Exam required. 1 unit of high school credit.
